Melethia and Duane

Melethia and Duane were married on a day that could only be described as perfect, at the elegant Woodmark Hotel. They met at work in 1999, and Duane proposed in the very same spot, eight years later. It didn’t take that long for these two to know that they had found something very special in each other, though -  Melethia called her mom that very first day, to share her excitement in meeting someone certain to play a special part in her life.

The ceremony was all peaceful happiness mixed with true love… it was simply beautiful. While it’s no secret that I still cry at weddings, these two have set some kind of record: I actually cried again while working through the photos. Duane’s vows to Melethia - unbelievable!

The party involved miniature banana splits in martini glasses, chocolate shake shots, our favorite dj, Austin Beaver, and even a magician. The greatest part, though, was when Melethia surprised Duane and everybody else with an incredible display of FIREWORKS!

Merry Beth Turpin
was the coordinator-extraordinaire. Rented Elegance provided the spectacular decor. Corey from Bogle Productions provided videography.

I have never seen or attended a wedding so perfect. It was beyond the fairytale wedding I dreamed of for my daughter. I can see the radiance of happiness in both of you in the pictures, you both are gorgeous. I’m so happy to now have the most wonderful son-in-law in the world. Being a part of the wedding and walking my daughter down the aisle was one of the best times in my life and I am still thinking and talking about it. Memories have been made and are for keeps. Fireworks were sensational, DJ was awesome, food was good and the ceremony including the send off, WOW! Duane, your vows to Melethia summed it all up. I met some of the most wonderful people during the wedding and I really enjoyed talking to them. I could go on and on but I guess I should end my comments with congratulations and best wishes to you in the future.
    I love you both,
    Mom

Though I have only seen a few photos, STUNNINGLY captured on film are vivid, true to form depictions of what I have deemed the most spectacular uniting in matrimony ever! Through images captured, it is virtually impossible not relive the happiness, warmth, & love that radiated on that day. If the 2012 Olympic Games give way for Contortionism Photography, hands down NL Photography will do USA proud bringing home gold in every category.

Audrey and Mike

We started with Audrey and Mike at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, where Audrey prepared for her wedding in an opulent suite (about the size of many first homes).

The ceremony took place at St. James Cathedral, the most elegant church in Seattle.

We ended up in the Columbia Tower Club, where guests enjoyed the soaring views from Seattle’s tallest building, martinis from the ice bar and luge, favorite hits from the 80’s (thanks to The Retros), and the ever-popular Live Photo Booth. The Homer Simpson groom’s cake was fun, but my favorite part of the night was when Audrey’s dad set aside his cane for the father-daughter dance to show the crowd that he still has some moves!

Coordinated by Jennifer Taylor from Occasions, LLC. Chris and Dawn from Edit 1 Media provided videography.

Katie and Aaron

Katie and Aaron were married at Indian Summer Golf and Country Club, on lucky July 13th. This date was chosen because as a couple, the 13th has marked several milestones: the day they met, the day they found out they were pregnant, the day their offer was accepted on their first house, and the day Aaron proposed to Katie (to name a few)!

Lily stole some attention during the ceremony, where she passed flower petals out to guests. Soon she’ll have to share the attention with a new brother or sister: Katie and Aaron announced the exciting news at the reception. Congratulations, again!
Katie’s dress is from the Princess Collection at Brides by Demetrios. The red velvet cake was by Celebrity Cake Studio. Erin & Company designed the flowers.

Margret and Jeremy

Margret and Jeremy chose the elegant Sorrento Hotel to host their wedding and reception. Although they knew it was love right away, they weren’t engaged until the 14th anniversary of their first date (which must mean their first date took place when they were about 8 years old)! Apparently, waiting doesn’t make proposing any less difficult.. when Jeremy got down on one knee, he held the ring box upside down!

The entire wedding party was hilarious - the guests (including a Great Dane) enjoyed the Live Photo Booth (and looked great with their paper mustaches)!

Margret’s dress was made by Alfred Angelo. The cake was by Sugar Bakery (who I’m told also makes excellent croissants).  TJ at Garden Party designed the flowers. Everybody danced the night away to Dysfunction Junction.

Mariya and Brian

Mariya and Brian enjoyed a wedding ceremony so full of love and appreciation for family, that there was hardly a dry eye in the church. Blessed Sacrament provided a beautiful and formal backdrop for the ceremony, while Broadmoor Country Club set an opulent stage for dinner, dancing, the Live Photo Booth, and lots more love and appreciation. Everyone should be so lucky to get a toast the likes of the one Brian’s brother gave!

Mariya and Brian are off to honeymoon in Europe - for a month!!

Valerie and Ryan

Valerie and Ryan are such a fun couple, and Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium was just about the perfect backdrop for their wedding ceremony! This was actually not the first time these two walked down the aisle together - they met at another wedding, where they were a bridesmaid and groomsman, brilliantly paired up. Valerie and Ryan knew on the very first date that they would be together forever! Ryan proposed exactly a year later, with Valerie’s family’s permission (and in front of both families) with his Great-Grandmother’s heirloom ring.

The first glance photos are always so, so much fun to take. It is such a beautiful moment, when a bride and groom see each other for the first time on their wedding day, and for the last time as single people. There’s often laughter, sometimes tears, and in Valerie and Ryan’s case, a really great expression that  just says it all….

Valerie’s dress is also a sort of an heirloom: her mother lovingly handmade it, with lace taken from her very own wedding dress!

Valerie and Ryan are hugely grateful to their families, who helped out immensely with all the planning, preparations, and on the wedding day. Catering by A Taste of the Wild.

Amy and Bill

Whenever Amy and Bill pass a Starbuck’s, they must remember their first meeting, after anonymously conducting business together for years. It was love at first sight! Amy phoned her best friend immediately afterwards, to tell her the thrilling story. After their second date, Bill pulled off his light-colored coat to lay across a park bench so Amy could sit without getting dirty. Aww! A little more than half a year later, the happy couple were riding their bikes on the Burke Gilman Trail. Bill surprised Amy with a trail-side picnic of champagne and truffles. Dessert, of course, was a gorgeous oval cut diamond ring!

Their ceremony took place at St. Jude’s Parish, with light showers that would clear up just in time for the reception at Willows Lodge, where guests enjoyed the perfect late-spring garden.

I can’t imagine how long Amy and Bill must have practiced, before thrilling their guests with a seriously unbelievable first dance! They should have plenty of time to rest their tired feet during their fabulous honeymoon in Maui…

Janel Schlitt and Jennifer Taylor from Occasions coordinated this event, and John at Final Take Productions provided videography. Dress by Marisa. Cake by New Renaissance Cakes. Floral arrangements by Miki’s Flowers. The musical perfection was thanks to the Michael Benson Band.

Oh, Amy! You are the most beautiful bride - you took my breath away! I am sad that we had to miss your miss big day - it looks like it was a storybook wedding. Can’t wait to see you (and finally meet your Bill) next time we’re back in the great state of Washington. I pray that God will bless your marriage, your friendship and your adventure as husband and wife. Congrats!

We’re Opening A Second Studio! Welcome, Anthology Photography.

Northern Lights Photography has been happily serving Seattle couples for more than 16 years. We have forged so many wonderful friendships with past brides and grooms, as well as other wedding professionals. We’re so grateful for everybody who has touched our lives here in Seattle. So don’t worry, we’re not leaving you!

However, there is another place that is very special to us. Although Eric and I met in the Emerald City, we each previously lived in Texas. Now, we’re excited to be back. That’s right, Austin: we’re home, and you can call us Anthology Photography!

Starting now, we will be photographing weddings both in Seattle and in Austin (as well as continuing to provide destination weddings worldwide). Since we travel for so many of our weddings, anyway, this will be easy for us. The tricky part, will be remembering which name to answer when we pick up the phone…
